Stunning beaches, sun-soaked shoreline, and a jiving nightlife – Goa is the perfect holiday destination. This beautiful but happening state has something for everyone. The adventure enthusiast can revel in the thrilling activities Goa has to offer, while the architecture and history enthusiast can visit the numerous churches, forts, and museums in the state. The leisure seeker can unwind in the gorgeous resorts and best 5-star hotels in Goa, while nature lovers have numerous hiking trails to explore. This much-loved destination is also a party lover’s paradise, with several nightclubs and casinos to pick from.

Let us now catch a glimpse of a lesser-known side of Goa and explore some of the state’s serene and spiritual temples.

7 Must-See Temples in Goa for a Spiritual Experience

1. Tambdi Surla Mahadev Temple

The beauty and architecture of the Tambdi Surla Mahadev Temple are just as attractive as its history. Built sometime in the 12th century by the Kadamba-Yadava King Ramachandra, the black basalt structure is a testament to ancient India’s glorious engineering marvels. It is one of the oldest temples in Goa and, due to its location in a thick forested area, remained unscathed during the invasion of the Delhi Sultanate in the 14th century. It is truly a hidden gem of Goa. Devotees undertake pilgrimages to the temple during Shivaratri and on other festive days.

2. The Shantadurga Temple

The Shantadurga Temple in Ponda district is one of the most famous temples in South Goa. It was built nearly 450 years ago in the Indo-Portuguese style of architecture and is administered by the Goud Saraswat Brahman Samaj. Its best feature is the main stambha, or tower, in front of the temple. The deity, Goddess Durga, is depicted here as the peacemaker between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. This temple should be on your bucket list, especially during festival days when the idol is carried in a golden palanquin during a procession.

3. The Chandreshwar Bhoothnath Temple

The Chandreshwar Bhoothnath Temple, located atop a hill in Paroda, South Goa, is another ancient and much-revered temple in the state. Devotees have to climb up a number of stairs to reach the temple. It is believed to have been built by the Bhoja King Chandravarman. While the outer temple is a modern structure, the inner sanctum was carved out of rock within a cave. The masterful construction ensures that the rays of the full moon fall directly on the deity which is in the form of the linga. The Bhootnath Temple is located near the Chandreshwar temple, and devotees visit both at the same time.

4. The Mangueshi Temple

The Mangueshi Temple in Priol is undoubtedly one of the most famous temples in Goa. The stately and imposing white and gold structure and the towering seven-tiered lamp tower are believed to be at least four centuries old. The sight of the oil lamps glimmering in the tower evokes devotion and faith in those who visit the temple. While the main shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva, there are several other deities in the complex. Originally constructed some five centuries ago, the temple was renovated by the Peshwas and, more recently, in the 1970s.

5. The Saptalokeshwar Temple

The Saptalokeshwar Temple, located in Narve, is just a short drive away from Panaji and has a rather tumultuous history. It was originally built by the Kadamba kings in the 12th century and remained an important centre of worship. The main idol was removed on several occasions for fear of desecration by the Bahamani Sultans and later by the Portuguese. However, the temple was rebuilt, and the Maratha King Shivaji eventually reinstalled the idol. While Lord Shiva is the main deity here, the most important festival celebrated at the temple is Gokulashtami, which is traditionally associated with Lord Krishna.

6. The Maruti Temple

The Maruti Temple, situated on top of Altinho Hill, is one of the most popular temples in Goa. Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the temple receives many visitors each year. The annual festival in February is a grand celebration that attracts thousands of devotees. This temple has a rich history and is considered to be an ancient temple. During the Portuguese administration, the main idol was temporarily removed, but it was reinstalled later, and the temple is now an important centre of worship. The temple’s bright orange structure is not only one of the most beautiful in the state but also offers stunning panoramic views of Panjim.

7. The Brahma Temple

The Brahma Temple in Satari is one of the very few places in the country where the Hindu god of creation is worshipped as the main deity. While the modern temple structure dates back to the 12th century, it is believed that the tradition of Brahma worship in the region dates back to the 5th century. The idol is intricately carved out of an ancient black stone, but the temple structure is modern and showcases Indo-Portuguese architecture.

Goa is a land that appeals to both the devout and the fun-seekers. Festivals of all religions are celebrated with great enthusiasm and splendour in Goa. It is not surprising that people from all over the country and the world flock to this stunning state every year during the holiday season.

If you, too, are looking forward to exploring Goa soon, then consider a stay at The LaLiT Golf & Spa Resort Goa. Located right by the beach, this resort offers luxurious accommodation and easy access to the best of Goa.

Ulsoor Lake is by far the most famous lake in Bangalore. Spread over nearly 123 acres of pristine blue waters, it is an oasis of natural beauty and serenity in the heart of the bustling metropolis. Initially built by Kempe Gowda I and later expanded by Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring, the lake is home to a diverse range of aquatic life. At the same time, the islands serve as the habitats for various migratory birds. This is the perfect place to go for a picnic, go for a walk or a jog, or spend time boating or birdwatching. It is also a favourite haunt of photography enthusiasts in the city.

2. Madiwala Lake

JP Nagar is one of the most vibrant and happening neighbourhoods in south Bangalore. The Sarakki Lake adds to the attraction of this posh and upscale locality. The name is derived from the Kannada words’ Saavira Hakki’, which means a thousand birds. It is no surprise that this 82-acre large lake is home to several species of migratory birds. The lake recently underwent a transformative revival and is the favourite destination of nature lovers in South Bangalore. The lake has a well-constructed 2.5-kilometre-long walking track and a beautiful garden that runs along its banks.

4. Hebbal Lake

Spread across 40 acres of land, Lalbagh Lake may be smaller than other lakes in the city, but it is often regarded as the best lake in Bangalore. This is because it is located within the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, a beautiful and eco-friendly attraction popular among tourists. The garden was first built in 1760 by the Sultan of Mysore, Hyder Ali, around the natural lake. Later, in 1890, James Cameroon rebuilt the lake. Lalbagh is renowned for its flower shows, and the lake offers a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the stunning views of the lush greenery.

6. Agara Lake

Agara Lake

Agara Lake is an expansive 80-acre clean water, greenery, and open space along the Outer Ring Road in Bangalore. This lake is part of the Varthur Lake series and receives overflow from the Mandiwala Lake. It provides a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The area around the lake is very well-maintained, with a jogging track and kids’ play area. Just the place to go when you want to indulge in some workout and breathe in clean air.

These are only some of the favourite sports for locals and tourists. There are about ten other lakes in Bangalore and its suburbs, which are perfect for fun and leisure activities. Some, like Varthur Lake, Sankey Tank, Nagavara Lake, Bellandur Lake, and Puttenahalli Lake, are just as popular but less crowded.  Many of Bangalore’s lakes have recently been de-silted and rejuvenated or are currently undergoing the process. Local authorities and citizen groups are actively involved in preserving the natural habitats of aquatic and avian species and transforming these lakes into beautiful spots for families to unwind and enjoy themselves.
