A Fantastic Stay in the City of Dreams

Mumbai is known as the city of dreams, the city that never sleeps and the one place that always has something fun to do. From relaxing by the beach to soaking in the glamour of Bollywood, there’s so many exciting ways to spend a fun weekend in Mumbai. Here’s looking at how you can enjoy a fantastic weekend in the city of dreams:

Day 1

The thought of taking a trip to Mumbai or spending a weekend there is incomplete without visiting Gateway of India or cruising along Marine Drive. The iconic Gateway of India is an 85-foot-tall triumphal arch situated at the tip of Apollo Bunder, facing the Mumbai Harbour. It was built in 1911 to honor the landing of Queen Mary and King George V. The Gateway of India is a landmark monument – one that a trip to Mumbai would definitely feel incomplete without.

After the sightseeing, head to Marine Drive – a stunning three-mile long promenade lined with palm trees, stretching from Nariman Point to Malabar Hill. The sight of Queen’s Necklace (less popularly known as Back Bay) is one to soak in. It rightly gets its name because of its resemblance to a string of pearls when seen in the evening from a distance. Spend your afternoon walking along Chowpatty beach, trying local food, dining at cafes and also remember to notice the multiple art deco buildings dotted along the stretch. Don’t forget to grab a sugarcane juice and bhelpuri from the street. Find yourself a nice spot in the sand and enjoy the view of the sun setting on the beach.

Day 2

As the fashion capital of the country, shopping in Mumbai is a given. You must keep a special eye out for artwork, jewellery and definitely hand-embroidered textiles. Start your second day with a trip to Kala Ghoda – this crescent shaped arts district is one of Mumbai’s best-kept treasures. It is famous for its artsy boutiques, museums and quaint little cafes serving great coffee and delicious food. Follow this with a shopping trip to Colaba Causeway, where you can put your bargaining skills to test. Also try to squeeze in a trip to Chor Bazaar (literally thieves market). Here, you’ll find everything from antique furniture to quirky Bollywood posters. End your day with a beautiful candle light dinner in Mumbai, at a roof top café or one of many fine dining options in the city.

As India’s financial, entertainment and fashion capital, there’s never going to be a dull moment in the city of dreams. The streets are always buzzing with people and sounds, and the city is full of life even at 3am in the night. When choosing among top hotels in Mumbai, consider The LaLiT Mumbai for its ease of location, 369 luxurious rooms and various recreational facilities including an all weather outdoor pool, Rejuve – The Spa and a 24/7 state of the art gym.
